Jump the waterfall, enjoy the ride!

Tiago Sá

TLDR

Comparing yourself to others is pointless. Growth comes from stepping outside your comfort zone, learning from failure, and breaking your patterns. You are your progress, not someone else’s story.

Have You Ever Compared Yourself?

Have you ever looked at someone else and thought, How did they get there?

For me, a big figure was my grandparent.

Seventy years ago in Portugal, he had the rare opportunity to study and take a degree, none of his brothers or sisters did. He went on to live an incredible life, but I’ll save the full story for another post if you want to know more.

The First Lesson

On the day I started primary school, at breakfast, he asked me a question:
If a car has only three wheels, how should they be positioned so it can run smoothly?

I didn’t get it right.

How can you know what you don’t know?

School is crucial, everyone should have access to it. But learning doesn’t stop there. How do you expose yourself to things you don’t know outside school?

The Comfort Zone Trap

It’s hard. Humans crave routine, predictability, and conformity. It’s safer that way.

But growth doesn’t happen in comfort. Growth happens when we step outside our safe zone, even if that means we fail.

Failing is embedded in us. Our Neanderthal roots made failing dangerous. it could mean death.

Fail Differently

We need to shift the idea of failure. Failing isn’t the end. It’s progress. It’s learning.
Never failing is a trap. Always learning is the goal.

The most enjoyable experience often occurs outside our comfort zone, with new inputs and different stimuli.

When you compare yourself to someone else, it’s unrealistic. You are not them. You are yourself yesterday, plus the improvements, plus the fails you made.

Break your patterns.
No one is holding you accountable.

Best,
Tiago

You are loved no matter what.
