Small steps, repeated daily, create big results. Start where you are, enjoy the process, and keep stacking improvements, the tricks will come.
When I started riding BMX at 14, I couldn’t bunny hop, I was too weak.
I recall a discussion with my brother on the way home about the frustration of not being able to do anything on the bike. Honestly, I don’t know why we didn’t give up. I guess it was fun to ride and be with friends; the tricks were secondary.
One day, I found a pull-up bar in the garage that could be mounted on a door.I knew from watching pros on TV that strong arms mattered, so this was a legendary find.
Besides riding every day, I aimed to do as many pull-ups and push-ups as possible.By the end of the week, I needed to surpass the previous week’s results, more reps, and longer holds. It had to be incrementally harder, and I did this every single day.
Eventually, I could bunny hop over small things.Later in my BMX career, I could jump almost a meter high.
We weren’t born knowing how to walk, talk, write, or read, and yet, here you are, reading this. Every improvement is a new achievement you unlocked.
If you’re starting your journey now, don’t give up.Enjoy the ride. The tricks, if you work at it, will eventually show up.
The internet is full of examples of people who followed this path.
Small steps, repeated consistently, compound into big wins.
