TLDR:
Opportunities don’t show up often, but when they do, you move faster if you’ve been building and learning along the way. Nothing you work on is wasted. Stay ready, so when it rains gold, you’re holding a bucket, not a thimble.
Hello, it’s me again.
Have you ever looked back and thought, I should’ve done this sooner?
This happens a lot with money.
I work in a fintech company, so investments, portfolios, and wealth management are part of my daily language.
It’s easy to think: If I had invested in this months or years ago, I’d be up 10x.
Hard part is… right now we don’t know what will 10x in the future.
But once you understand that some things can grow massively over time, you start paying attention. You stay ready.
There’s a famous quote from Warren Buffett:
Opportunities come infrequently. When it rains gold, put out the bucket, not the thimble.
As builders, this applies to us, too. I’ll give you a recent example.

Marc Lou has been dealing with Stripe for a long time. In his boilerplate, he handles Stripe events. He worked on tools that deal with Stripe disputes. He struggled, learned, and figured things out. Even if the visible work was small, the knowledge was stacked.
He already had pieces built in previous projects, like his indie dev leaderboard.
So when the opportunity showed up, he executed fast.
He didn’t get *lucky, *he was prepared.
That’s the point.
The work you do compounds. You get specialised in small things without noticing. When the moment comes, you can move faster than everyone else.
My work with Cozy Watch made me a specialist in the GitHub API, GitHub flow, and the entire ecosystem.
Am I ready to use it? Yes.
Nothing you work on is wasted.
So when opportunities come, take your shot.
All the best,
Tiago 🫶
